Aspiring Journalist and Writer

About

Peter Nowlan graduated from Ithaca College in May 2025 with a degree in Politics and a minor in both journalism and sociology. He prides himself on his journalism, where he has employed his natural ability to forge genuine relationships with the skill to write with depth and authenticity. He initially decided to enter the exploratory program at Ithaca College, where he could take on a wide range of courses including economics, history, sociology, politics, and more.

With guidance from his father and sister, he realized the potential benefits of combining his unique skill set into a future in journalism. Peter has taken courses on American and international politics as well as several foundational journalism courses. These classes have given him a solid understanding of political and social issues as well as the skills to effectively shoot and edit news clips with a SONY X70 camera and Adobe Premier. He has also learned how to use podcasting as a tool to effectively present his projects.

While taking an investigative journalism class last spring, he and his classmates created a podcast on youth homelessness in Ithaca. The relationships he developed with his interview subjects during this project further encouraged him to shine a light on our nation’s systemic inequalities. He hopes to continue on the path of journalism after school, whether working independently or with a media company. His main focus is to amplify the voices of the powerless and make a positive impact on his community. Peter was also a member of Ithaca College’s varsity lacrosse program for four years.
